Tenehapa Embroidered Cross-body Bag
The Tenehapa cross-body bag – named after it's place of origin, is a tiny village renowned for it’s textiles that nary a tourist (or gringa) ventures into (it is a wild part of Mexico).
This little beauty is possibly one of my favourites from the Mexico collection.
Handwoven on a backstrap loom and hand embroidered by a local artisan, this is a traditional textile that the tribal men in this Mayan tribal village rock.
The ‘Tenehapa’ Bag will make perfect statement in an urban setting, worn with maxi dress and white sneakers or paired with a pair of cut-offs with sand in your toes– the Tenehapa is an adventuresome bag made for wanderers and wanderlusters.

What’s not to love.
This is a traditional textile of Tenehapa, Mexico, masterfully made and handwoven and embroidered over the course of week.
It is a statement in slow fashion style and tribal triumphing.
Oh, and it comes with it’s own crazy story.
Acquiring this beauty was no easy feat. Cameras are banned in the villages, and outsiders are very much outsiders.
Prior to locating this bag, a local Priest tempted me with the traditional Mayan spirit called Pox. It is a privilege in these parts to be offered said drink (albeit it comes at a price). Not wanting to offend the spiritual man, I offered the drink to my travel partner – a wise anthropologist who happily shot it back while I slipped outside to a local female co-operative and snapped up this cross-body bag.
